Introduction

Moderator: Emmanuel Njeuhmeli, MD, MPH, MBA
Dr. Emmanuel Njeuhmeli is the Senior Biomedical Prevention Advisor at the Office of HIV/AIDS at USAID Washington. He is the VMMC technical lead for USAID and provides high-level technical support to PEPFAR programs in Eastern and Southern Africa for the acceleration of the scale up of voluntary medical male circumcision program. Dr. Njeuhmeli is a public health physician holding a Medical Degree from the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of University of Yaounde I in Cameroon; a Master’s of Public Health and Master’s of Business Administration both from John Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health and Carey Business School in Baltimore, MD USA. He has more than 17 years progressive and intensive expertise in translating evidence to policy, strategic planning, piloting new initiatives and program implementation for scaling up HIV prevention, care and treatment interventions including behavioral change intervention HIV prevention, biomedical HIV prevention, structural HIV intervention, HTC, PMTCT, care and ARE treatment. He has been involved in HIV programs design and implementation in 16 countries in Central, West, Southern and Eastern Africa.

Frameworks for Diagnosing and Improving Program Sustainability

Marelize Görgens is HIV Program Manager at the World Bank, within the Health, Nutrition and Population global practice. In this capacity, she technically leads the team’s technical assistance and analytical work program in advising governments on how to improve the economics and implementation of their HIV programs by supporting those Governments to design and implement HIV programs efficiently, effectively, sustainably and in an integrated way.

Sustainability Implications for Different Voluntary Medical Male Circumcision Plans

Rachel Sanders is a Senior Policy Analyst with Avenir Health responsible for coordinating work on the OneHealth Tool, as well as providing technical assistance on the OneHealth Tool, LiST, AIM and other costing and projection tools. Her field experience includes work in the Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, South Africa, Central America, and Nepal and she holds a Masters in Public Policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. Prior to Avenir Health, she worked at Futures Group, where she was most recently the Deputy Director for the Health Policy Initiative Costing Task Order.

Involvement of Private Sector and Health Insurance Schemes in Namibia

Dineo Dawn Pereko, BPharm, MPH, Dineo Dawn Pereko is a pharmacist with more than 18 years’ experience in private and public sector pharmacy services, industrial, regulation, public health and management. Currently she works for Abt Associates Inc. under the Strengthening Health Outcomes through Private Sector (SHOPS) project in Namibia. Prior to joining SHOPS as the Namibia Country Representative, Dineo was Associate Director for the Strengthening Pharmaceutical Systems (SPS) Program in Namibia where she provided strategic direction in areas of medicines selection, rational use and information systems.

VMMC in Tanzania: Moving Toward Sustainability

Dr. Gissenge J.I.Lija, MD, M.Med (Dermatovenereology) is the National STI Coordinator and National VMMC Focal Person in the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare/National AIDS Control Program-Tanzania. He has vast experience in the development of national HIV prevention health care policies, as well as planning and coordination of VMMC implementation in Tanzania. He also coordinates and supervises various areas of research related to HIV prevention, in particular VMMC  and in designing quality improvement systems and strategies for HIV health care interventions.

Way Forward Kenya: Integration of VMMC in Routine Health Care by 2019

Francis Ndwiga Benson MSc/MBA, PhD(c) is the current VMMC Program Manager at NASCOP. He is an assistant Chief Clinical Officer, Ministry of Health in the National Government of Kenya, and an active member of the Association of Clinical Officers Association of Kenya. Francis has contributed to the strengthening of the Kenya national VMMC program in a number of ways: he developed a Program Performance Framework for the VMMC Program in Kenya, the policy and guidelines including the development of EIMC service delivery guidelines, the VMMC strategy end-term review /strategy review and he was a co-investigator in the VMMC device study in Eldoret, Kenya.

Demand Creation for VMMC Sustainability

Kim Seifert-Ahanda, MPH, is the Senior Behavior Change Advisor at USAID’s Office of HIV/AIDS.  With 25 years in the field of international health and development, her career has focused on SBCC project management and community engagement with an emphasis on capacity strengthening.  A former Director of Programming and Training for the US Peace Corps in Cameroon, Senior Program Officer at the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs, and Nutritional Counselor for the Whitman Walker Clinic, her work has supported a variety of public health domains in countries across Africa, in Haiti, and the United States.
