HC3 provided technical assistance to two organizations in Benin to use the Urban Adolescent SBCC Implementation Kit (available in English and French) in their work on improving the sexual and reproductive health of urban youth. As part of this effort, HC3 conducted a qualitative analysis of their experiences to determine the I-Kit’s contributions toward strengthening capacity to implement state-of-the-art SBCC programs.
HC3 provided technical assistance to develop a malaria communication strategy in DRC. HC3 also previously worked in-country with the UN Commission on Life-Saving Commodities to promote the development of communication strategies to increase demand for underutilized lifesaving commodities.

HC3 worked with the USAID Mission in Egypt to adapt the Urban Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) Social and Behavior Chance Communication Implementation Kit (I-Kit) for the Egyptian context. The adapted I-Kit focused on youth aged 15 to 24 and addressed SRH in the broader context of youth development and included additional content on gender-based violence and other cross-cutting topics.

HC3 was the primary convener for adapting the Strategic Communication Framework for Hormonal Contraceptive Methods and Potential HIV-Related Risks and organized a stakeholder meeting in January 2015 to develop a country-specific communication strategy and roll out plan. HC3 has provided technical assistance in the development of communication materials to support the plan.
HC3 strengthened linkages and timely use of care and treatment services within provider initiated testing and counseling (PITC) settings through development and testing of enhanced counseling modules for providers. The project also supported voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) programs in efforts to generate increased demand among the 15 to 29-year-old age group and developed a presentation, including photos and a voice over, for use in waiting rooms in private facilities providing VMMC in Namibia, providing expertise to develop and finalize the product for dissemination.

HC3 promoted voluntary medical male circumcision in South Africa. HC3 also conducted a mixed methods assessment on adolescent VMMC in Tanzania, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
HC3 evaluated the Tanzania Leadership in Strategic Communication training conducted in eight regions and 52 districts of Tanzania. The evaluation examined whether campaigns implemented by district teams that participated in the training followed the strategic approach taught, and evaluate the added impact of mentoring provided to eight of the district teams. HC3 reviewed the Zimbabwe National Malaria Control Program’s (NMCP) communication strategy and helped draft implementation guidelines for malaria SBCC activities. The guidelines are designed to improve the quality and impact of SBCC programs by ensuring that all SBCC implementing partners in Zimbabwe are using evidence-based strategies. HC3 conducted a mixed methods assessment on adolescent VMMC in Tanzania, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
