HC3 supported the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) work towards its goal of creating an AIDS-free generation and reaching the 90-90-90 targets by advancing global thinking around the impact of health communication on HIV-related outcomes. The project tested new approaches and synthesized current evidence to identify gaps and illuminate areas where communication can help prevent and mitigate HIV and AIDS. In doing so, HC3 made the case for the strongest uses of health communication among current and emerging HIV programming, including its impact on:
- Treatment initiation, retention and adherence
- Voluntary male medical circumcision (VMMC)
- HIV testing and counseling
- Condom promotion and use
- Stigma mitigation
- Key populations
HC3 disseminated best practices and approaches widely to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of HIV-related programmatic efforts.
