Entering the Conversation of Young Couples Talking About Life Goals

Three short video case studies draw viewers into the experience of a peer facilitator as they “enter the conversation” on health with several young couples – each considering the best course of action to meet their life goals.

These video portraits offer a glimpse into the lives of real people and a chance to hear in their own words what they dream for their families. At the same time, they illustrate the Health Communication Capacity Collaborative’s (HC3) communication approach of “entering the conversation” as a cooperative partner, seeking to understand beneficiaries’ goals, helping them consider options and navigate toward the most relevant health solutions.

The case studies were produced by the HC3 team in Nepal, supported by USAID, with Oliver Wilkins, an Emmy award-winning filmmaker and cinematographer.

In “New Baby, New Parents,” we are introduced to a Kaski couple full of ideas and feelings about their new life as parents, ready to give the best care possible to their little one. They take action both to immunize their child, as well as to protect him and themselves against an early, unplanned pregnancy.

In “Toward a Brighter Future,” a young woman and her migrant husband, who returned home immediately in the aftermath of Nepal’s major earthquake of 2015, reflect on that memory and on what is most important to both of them. Their dedication to each other and to the education of their 6 year old daughter form the basis for their next family decision.

In “Pratima’s Community,” we join HC3 Peer Facilitator, Pratima Chaudhary, on her daily round of household visits in her Chitwan Tharu neighborhood. Through her conversations, we meet a variety of community members weighing health and family planning choices in light of their own circumstances. As a member of the community, Pratima is there to help.
