Designed with the Sub-Saharan African context in mind, the I-Kit is an adaptable resource intended for use across multiple city, country and regional contexts. Intended I-Kit users include program managers working on sexual and reproductive health (SRH), social and behavior change communication (SBCC) and adolescent issues, as well as youth organizers working in SRH or SBCC.

The I-Kit focuses on adolescents ages 10 to 19 living in urban environments because as cities and peri-urban centers continue to grow around the world, so do the number of young people living in or relocating to these places. Urban environments bring together people, ideas, behaviors and social values from all different backgrounds and origins. Adolescents in these settings also have access to a myriad of communication channels, compared to their rural peers. Such dynamic contexts pose unique challenges and advantages to adolescents themselves, and to the program managers trying to reach them. The Urban Adolescent SRH SBCC I-Kit is designed to help sift through these layers, and to strengthen users’ capacity to develop technically sound SRH SBCC programs for adolescents living in their urban communities.
