Behavior Change Communication’s Impact on HIV to Be Focus of HC3 Mini-U Presentation

The Health Communication Capacity Collaborative (HC3) will be endorsing the important role social and behavior change communication (SBCC) plays in preventing and treating HIV at USAID’s Global Health Mini-University on Friday, March 7, 2014. Titled, Communication and Communities: Impact on HIV Prevention, the session will highlight what that impact is, as well as how it can be improved, expanded and best measured.

HC3’s presentation will be based on two expert consultations it hosted in 2013; each explored the evidence around how SBCC is used most strategically in combination HIV prevention.

The first global expert consultation, which convened 17 international experts representing multiple sectors, geographic regions and perspectives to foster a multidisciplinary dialogue on the impact of health communication on combination HIV prevention, looked at health communications impact on HIV outcomes. The second expert consultation examined community level factors, such as stigma, social and gender norms and social networks, and the impact on HIV outcomes globally.

The presentation will be held from 1:30-2:00 pm in the Grand Ballroom at the Cloyd Heck Marvin Center at George Washington University.
