Call for Abstracts and Concept Notes for the First International SBCC Summit

Abstracts for technical presentations and concept notes for Comm Talks and skills-building workshops are now being accepted for the First International Summit on Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC).

The Summit will be held February 8-10, 2016, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and will bring together the global community of professionals and organizations to exchange knowledge, advance the science and practice, and enhance the art of SBCC for health. It offers participants a number of ways to disseminate recent research, tools, and programming by:

  • Giving oral or poster presentations
  • Presenting a “Comm Talk”
  • Exhibiting in the Exchange Fair
  • Facilitating a skills-building workshop

The summit will focus on health topics such as HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, family planning/reproductive health and maternal, neonatal and child health among others. Abstracts on water and sanitation, the environment, gender and other related areas are also welcome.

Technical oral and poster presentations will feature innovative and best practices in programming, research, monitoring and evaluation. Accepted abstracts will be designated by the selection committee as either oral or poster presentations. Oral presentations will be organized according to theme and presented as panel sessions. Posters will be presented within the exhibition space for the duration of the summit.

Abstract tracks include Research, Monitoring and Evaluation; SBCC Innovations and Best Practices; and a Multimedia Showcase. The multimedia showcase will focus on creative multimedia such as films and videos, television, radio programs, mobile platforms, animation, comics, transmedia and interactive websites used in SBCC programs.

Comm Talks will focus on experiences from the field (innovations, successes, challenges, and lessons learned). These should be no more than 10 minutes in length and structured like a TED Talk.

Skills-building workshop sessions will provide participants the opportunity to develop new SBCC skills. Workshops should be either two or four hours in length and focus on building skills in areas such as, but not limited to, SBCC research, communication channels, advocacy, program planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation, theories and approaches.

The deadline for abstract and concept note submission is Monday, September 21, 2015. All submissions must be in English, Spanish or French and will be acknowledged on receipt.
