Evolving Communication Strategies: Post Earthquake Nepal

sbcc in emergency situationsAlmost immediately after the devastating earthquakes which hit Nepal in April of this year,  emergency communication plans were put into effect – for example, the Suaahara SBCC Strategy. This strategy aimed at empowering families to practice healthy behavior in the emergency setting, and focused on small doable actions to sustain infant and child health.

As post-earthquake life in Nepal moves forward, new needs have arisen, new potential problems have emerged, and the Ministry of Health (MOH) continues to monitor the communication needs. In May of 2015, the MOH produced a post-earthquake communication strategy for the period May-October 2015 focusing on the prevention of possible outbreaks of infectious diseases, disability and exacerbation of public health problems.
